Product Description

Perhaps best known for writing the musical Oliver, Lionel Bart was a prolific songwriter and began his career, not writing musicals, but pop songs for the likes of Tommy Steele, Marty Wilde and Cliff Richard. This collection features many of the Bart penned pop singles released between the start of his professional writing career in 1956 and 1962 as well as pop covers of songs from his hit shows including Oliver!, Things Ain't What They Used To Be and Blitz! Whilst Lionel Bart's original cast recordings are well known, this set features rarer versions of songs from his shows covered by the likes of Adam Faith, Anthony Newley, Danny Williams, Shirley Bassey, Alma Cogan and more. The set features tracks in their original single versions (in stereo where possible), alongside selected studio cast LP recordings and recordings by Bart himself, under his own name or hiding behind a pseudonym such as Ocher Nebbish. This compilation features many recordings that have never been released on CD before including rare singles by Bill Dainty, Dickie Loader, and the Barry Sisters.
