Product Description

2011 three CD collection. Complete Pop Instrumental Hits of the Sixties, Vol. 1 - 1960 marks the beginning of a series of releases that will definitively document the decade when the Pop instrumental genre truly reached it's zenith. Rock, Rhythm 'n' Blues, Country, and orchestral instrumental singles all vied for a spot in the Hot 100 weekly charts. The Ventures, Duane Eddy, Chet Atkins, Johnny & the Hurricanes, Percy Faith, Bill Black, Ferrante & Teicher - these giants of the genre are all here. But, so are Monty Kelly, the Ramblers, and Charles Wolcott. Who, you ask? All of them scored instrumental hits in 1960, none of which have ever been on CD before now. In fact, this 81-track set includes no less than 16 CD debuts and dozens of genuinely rare tracks - 45 in true stereo.

What a collection. Every instrumental to make the Billboard Hot 100 (peak) in 1960. I've listened to this entire collection twice since receiving it a few days ago. The sound is superb! And I am familiar with every cut. Things can only get better.Hasmick productions and the producers of this set are to be complimented not only on the idea but on the quality of the production. I especially enjoyed the liner notes which list every act/conductor/orchestra in alphabetical order and give great info on each.My hope is that when the set for 1961 is produced they will include the instrumentals that 'bubbled under the Hot 100'. Some of the best sounds ever were territorial/regional/breakout hits but never developed enough strength at any one time to be listed on the Hot 100. Many of these spent weeks on the 'Bubbling Under Charts'.This collection includes a few selections that came close to No. 100 but didn't quite make it.My favorite is Chet Atkin's recording of "Theme From the Dark at the Top of the Stairs".Thanks everyone for bringing the sounds of our teens/early 20s to light in the new millenium.Being a band student (clarinet, baritone, bass, harmonica, drums) I always appreciated the instrumentals on the radio. My own collection probably had more instrumentals than vocals.Get this, get this, get this! Let these people know how much you appreciate what they are doing!Cannot wait for the next volume(set) covering the Billboard hit instrumentals of 1961.Please don't forget those that just hit the 'bubbling under the Hot 100' charts.
